Sembcorp ‘masterchefs’ cook up tasty sum for Macmillan Cancer Research.

UK, Sep 27, 2019

Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it?

Sembcorp employees proved otherwise as they scoffed their way through a mountain of delicious cakes and other tasty treats to raise more than £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Dozens of employees on Teesside and in Solihull took part in a lunchtime feeding frenzy as part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning initiative, raising funds to help those living with cancer.

The cherry on the cake came when the company also chipped in with £500 of matched funding that will help to change lives in the UK and across the world through the work of the inspirational Macmillan nurses.

Organisers on Teesside Laura McLaughlin, Marie Mistry and Chris Rennard plus Solihull volunteers Amy Shaw, Laura Cutler and Abi Walker were delighted with the total.

Laura McLaughlin said: "Everyone got into the spirit and we were immensely grateful to all those who cooked and baked or simply bought items on the day – or both!"

In 2018, the event raised more than £26 million globally and when all donations are in, the 2019 event is likely to achieve a similar sum.

The total sum of just over £1,000 raised by Sembcorp Energy UK employees (including the company matched funding) equates to the cost of supplying a Macmillan nurse for a week, helping people living with cancer and their families with essential medical, practical and emotional support.
